Quebec has so much wonderful fashion talent with designers like Valerie Dumaine, Eve Gravel and Norwegian Wood. I wouldn’t mind having an entire closet filled with local labels except that the problem lies within amassing such a wardrobe. Sifting through the goods at each and every boutique takes a while, let alone the travel time. So when I finally headed to NDG’s Bruxe General Store I was thrilled to know that my local wardrobe dream could, in fact, be a reality at this one-stop shop.

Created by brothers Oli and Mer Van Roost, fashion industry veterans, this general store features everything needed to dress from head to toe in homegrown style. Just a few of the other local brands in-store include Luv U Always, Hanna Broer and Rachel F. Plus, there are a handful of international lines such as Lifetime, J Brand and Hudson.

Born and raised in Belgium, the Van Roost brothers bring a piece of home to Bruxe, both through its namesake and its European flare. When I asked Oli what types of garments and accessories he and his brother choose to stock in the store he mentioned that it was really an eclectic mix. They prefer independent labels that focus on good quality and craftsmanship and offer timeless, classic styling.

With this opportunity in hand I didn’t waste any time mentally scanning the store to one day style my new wardrobe. But where to start? The floral balloon dress ($132) from Bodybag by Jude seemed like the perfect summer outfit. Then on to paint splatter leggings ($50) by Norwegian Wood and an aqua pair of skinny jeans ($220) from J Brand. Accessorize it all with a pair of metal feather and chain earrings ($32) from Nea wear and I’m certainly on my way.

While I may have been dreaming about this new wardrobe, I figured I might as well share it with the rest of my family. A retro striped men’s bathing suit ($70) by The Critical Slide Society seemed like the perfect gift for my guy, while the Native shoes ($35) for kids were simply irresistible.

Bruxe is like the Bloomindgale’s of Montreal fashion. The best of the best, all in one spot, just waiting to be discovered.
