It’s that time of the year again! The sun is high in the sky, festival season is in full swing and with so many things going on it can be hard to know where to go, what not to miss and what to skip. Fear not dear zurbaines, at the beginning of July there’s only one place to be so put on your best festival attire and take a road trip to Ottawa for the 2012 RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest. For over 10 days Canada’s capital will be invaded with music lovers of all ages. With over 35 artists set to play on 5 different stages, the Ottawa Bluesfest continues to surprise everyone with its eclectic line-up year after year. Some might say the festival is a bit all over the place, I say there’s something for everyone.

Having strayed from its blues roots quite a few years ago, the festival continues to strengthen its image as a multi-genre music festival. The 19th edition is sure to provide you with the best bang for your buck whether you’re a lover of indie, rap, electro or rock. With ticket prices as low as $45 to $65 for single day passes and $375 for the full festival passport, you’ll get your money’s worth real fast.

Teens and the young at heart will be happy to hear Carly Rae Jepsen‘s massive hit “Call me maybe” live on July 5th while old-schoolers are sure to rock out to Iron Maiden on July 7th. The long list of great rappers you’ll be able to enjoy live is composed of Big Boi, A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd and Ms. Lauryn Hill. If you’re more into classic rock, you’ll be pleased to find out that the likes of Alice Cooper and John Mellencamp will be hitting the stages. As for our homeland music scene, it will be represented by such bands as Down with Webster, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth and Hey Rosetta! Other must-see acts include City and Colour, Beirut, Sam Roberts, Metric and well, let’s be honest, the list could go on and on.

Early July will be the time to put on those denim shorts, fringe tops and Wayfarer shades and dance to some 75 acts that are set to perform on the Ottawa Bluesfest stages. This festival proves that Ottawa knows how to party.
